30% of all food produced is wasted, and this waste consumes 21% of all fresh water and 18% of all cropland. If the world's 2 billion high consumers cut their meat consumption by 40%, it would save an area of land 2 x the size of India, and avoid 3 x all gas emissions in 2009.

Create an information board about food waste and the carbon footprint of different meal choices (meat vs vegetables) in your lunch hall. This will help raise awareness of the huge wastage of food and so the wastage of all the resources used to produce the food. It will also help pupils choose lunches with a lower carbon footprint, and encourage them to waste less food.
